Turkmen natural gas brings heat to Urumqi and Beijing
According Xinhua news agency with reference to the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the transit of natural gas to Tszinbyan compressor station "towards Beijing and adjacent areas" began in the third week of January.
This event marked the commissioning of the western section of the "West-East" pipeline that was connected with the Turkmenistan-China transnational gas pipeline, via which gas is being supplied from Samandepe field in Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the agency said.

ALMATY, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Europe's main democracy and security watchdog sharply criticised Uzbekistan on Tuesday for jailing and harassing journalists, saying there has been no real improvement in its media freedom. The former Soviet state has intensified its campaign against independent media over many years, driving international media out of the country and putting pressure on local reporters.
